Destinee Fisher

Destinee Fisher is multidisciplinary artist based out of Decatur, Ga. She received her BFA in Photography from Georgia State University in 2013 and has since worked in a plethora of mediums including textiles, oil pastel, and digital illustration. In 2020, she established Destinee Creates Stuff where she focused on designing digital illustrations for prints, greeting cards, and stickers. This lead to freelance work with Cottonelle, BLK HLTH, and Oxford College of Emory University. Since 2023 she has shifted her art practice towards more traditional materials including, but never limited to, acrylic paint and oil pastel.
Typical theme in her work include exploring personal and regional identity through vibrant color ways, terroir fruit and flora, and bodily movement and posture. She often pulls inspiration from what and who is happening around me.
My current work explores the idea of hands as portraiture. I feel that our hands tell our stories without need for words, facial expression, or robust body language. Stretched across bold backgrounds, the hands exist in relationship with an object, typically local fruit or flora, that are meant to entice the viewer to see themselves engaging in those movements. I hope that they then can infer their own narratives, insert their own stories, and possibly reflect on how their own hands can tell their stories.
